MowerLab Commentary

Editorial Assessment

What a MowerLab field test of the Anthbot R7 would cover: edge trimming along our metal-edged landscaping and other obstacles, positioning under trees, slopes, and a 0.75-acre lawn that is far smaller than the area Anthbot quotes. None of this is a test result. It is the list of questions our property is set up to answer.

Edge trimming. The headline feature is the EdgeEase arm, which Anthbot says trims along lawn boundaries. Our property has metal-edged landscaping with white-washed stone around the house, a raised garden with a gate, and a basketball hoop on a square cement post block. These are the edges where a trimming arm either works or hits something. We would record contact, how close it trims to each edge, and whether it leaves uncut grass behind.

Positioning under trees. Anthbot lists dual LiDAR, PPP-RTK and AI vision. Our tree by the street, tree in the back yard and treehouse near the creek edge are places where satellite signals can degrade. We would log where positioning drops and what the mower does next, and whether the LiDAR carries it through.

Slopes and obstacles. Anthbot rates the series for slopes up to 40° (84%) and obstacles up to 6 cm. We have not measured our property's grades yet, so a test would report how it handled the slopes we have, not whether it reaches 40°. The staked no-go area would show whether it respects a boundary that has no wire.

Coverage, variants and the app. Anthbot quotes up to 4,000 m² of daily mowing, more than our lawn, so we would look at total job time and docking rather than capacity. The series covers several variants, so a test would name the exact model and firmware used. Animal detection by thermal signal is something our property cannot reliably stage, so we would not score it. App, cut quality, rain handling and noise would be scored in the same categories as every other mower we test.

MowerLab field tests run on one 0.75-acre residential test property with 7 mapped obstacles (property details).
